One file, several physical sizes

Printful scales a design across a garment size run, so the same file prints larger on a 3XL than on a S. A file sitting exactly at 150 DPI across the base print area therefore drops below it on the larger sizes โ€” and nothing warns you, because the file passed when you uploaded it. The scale factors are not published, so the useful number is not a percentage but a width: how wide this file can be printed before it falls under the floor. At 4500 ร— 5400 that width is 30โ€ณ, double the 15โ€ณ base area, which is one of the reasons to build the master at that size rather than at the minimum that passes.

How this tool calculates DPI

It ignores the DPI tag written into the file and divides the pixel count by the 15โ€ณ ร— 18โ€ณ print area instead โ€” which is the figure the platform actually enforces.

Frequently asked questions

What DPI does Printful require?

Prepare at 150 DPI across the print area. Printful is permissive about low-resolution uploads, so the risk sits in the finished product rather than at the upload step.

Do I need an account to check a file?

No. The whole check runs in your browser โ€” no account, no upload.
